ipsy: February 2014

Yes, I admit it. I read the sneak peeks and looked at my Glam Room before my bag arrived. What I saw was very promising for a good ipsy month. Especially in light of a seriously bad birchbox month.

This month's theme is "The Look of Love" and ties into Valentine's Day with lots of pink. As evidenced by the bag.

I really like this bag, especially compared to last month's smelly one. The pink is a nice color, and the inside is even better. A fun leopard print in more pink shades.

The info card illustrates the theme with some heart shaped lips.

The reverse has the logos of the possible brands sampled in the bag, as well as details on how to win a one-year free ipsy subscription. I did enter this month, so wish me luck!

POP Beauty
Plump Pout Mini - Peony Petal
Sample size: 4g/0.14oz (Full size: $16)

"This plumping pout perfector combines the high-shine of a lacquered gloss with the long wear of a stain and is packed full of lip-plumping peptides and avocado and jojoba oils. Lightweight, creamy texture immediately merges with lips & delivers intense glossy color for an extremely long-lasting finish!"

I was happy to receive this lip gloss in my bag. Of the two possible colors, Peony Petal or Fuchsia Freesia, I would have preferred the fuchsia. The peony is fine though. I put some on right out of the bag. The color was good. Didn't notice any plump though. This is a British product, which always interests me.

Zoya
Nail Polish - Odette
Full size sample! Sample size: 0.5 fl oz/15ml (Full size: $9)

"This season's Zoya Nail polishes are full of pure pigment, intense color and modern complexity that are a perfect transition into Spring. Odette can be best described as full-coverage, sultry orchid maroon cream. Pair with any of the other Naturel Collection shades for a chic tone-on-tone look!"

Of all the possible samples this month, this is the one I was wishing for the most. In this color too, although I would have been happy with Dot (a pale, ballerina pink) too. I'll say it again, I love nail polish. All of my subscriptions could send me a polish a month and I would be happy. Zoya is new to me and I look forward to testing it out when my current mani runs it's course. The ipsy subscriber deal is pretty good too: buy two Zoya polishes receive one polish and one remover free. I may just have to take advantage of that deal.

Swatch Update

I love Odette! The color is even better than in the bottle. (This was taken in outdoor light.)

Mally Beauty
Evercolor Starlight Waterproof Eyeliner - Starshine
Full size sample! Sample size: 0.04oz/1.2g (Full size: $15)

"This creamy formula glides effortlessly onto the lid and locks into lower rim to beautifully define your eyes. Create a fine line or a thicker line with no pulling or tugging. Wear it as a shadow by applying to the lid and smudge. Rich and full, this liner will give a strong coverage that lasts all day."

This is a really nice silver color, without being too over the top. I've heard of Mally, but hadn't tried their products yet so this was a win for me. Plus, I love eye make-up.

City Color
Be Matte Blush - Fresh Melon
Full size sample! Sample size: net wt. 0.314oz/8.9g (Full size: $2.99)

"Available in 4 shades, this silky-smooth, highly pigmented matte blush compliments and blends evenly with your skin's natural glow. Extremely buildable to create a subtle or dramatic look."

The good news? This full size sample is huge. The bad news? I do not wear blush. My face is gets red enough without adding more color to it. This was a big miss for me. Maybe I can trade it.

J.Cats Beauty
Eyelashes and Eyelash Glue - EL 15
Full size sample! Sample size: two eyelashes (Full size: $3.99)

"Cause a ruckus as you bat your voluminous faux eyelashes! Each includes an individual eyelash adhesive for endurance through a night on the town!

- Eyelash glue is latex free
- Perfect for sensitive eyes
- Lashes can be used up to 10 times
- Creates the perfect natural look"

If I have one justifiable vanity it is my eyes, especially my eyelashes. They are glorious and in no need of falsies. Le sigh. Needless to say this products is a major miss for me. Again, trade anyone??

Summary: very pleased overall! Love the Zoya polish, and really like the lip glass and eyeliner. The blush and false lashes I'll pretend don't exist. The three full-ish size samples I liked are a value of $32, which definitely made the $10/month subscription cost worth it.
