Beauty Box Five: May 2014

Last month I came across a deal through a Facebook ad for Beauty Box Five. BB5 is a monthly subscription box for beauty products. I can't remember the exact deal, but I think I signed up and received either a free first box or only paid a couple dollars for it. Yesterday it arrived!

As is typical with subscription boxes, an info card was included:

With product details on the back (complete with correct company hashtags):

A promo card was also included:

I had read a few spoiler reviews online and I was excited to dig into my box.

I was surprised, however, that my items were different. Weirdly the two or three reviews I read were all the same products so I assumed everyone received the same samples. I assumed incorrectly. I still like what I received, but wanted the face mask others received. Oh well. Now on to what I did receive.

Aveeno
Daily Moisturizing Lotion
Sample size: 1 fl oz (Full size: $8.49 for 12 fl oz)

"Clinically proven to improve the health of skin in one day, this emollient moisturizer is formulated to help prevent dryness and will leave your skin feeling sexy, soft, and naturally healthy."

I actually did a swap for this lotion, and haven't yet tried it. The one I swapped for is a larger sample size, so I may try this one and then decide if I want to keep both or swap the larger one for something else.

H2O Plus
SPA Hand and Nail Cream
Sample size: 1 fl oz (Full size: $15 for 6 fl oz)

"Even the roughest skin doesn't stand a chance! This lightweight, non-greasy moisturizer is the perfect compliment to a fabulous manicure. Prepare for compliments!"

I have never heard of this brand, but from the reviews I've read it appears to be a fave of BB5. I tend to be picky with hand lotion, so this may be headed to the swap shop.

Ban
Total Refresh Cooling Body Cloths
Sample size: 3 cloths (Full size: $2.97 for 10 cloths)

"Stay calm and cool! Break out these cloth wipes after the gym, during a long day at work, or before a hot date to ensure you smell fresh and feel smooth! Just unfold and give yourself a quick rundown!"

I like the idea of these, and was surprised that they are made by Ban. I mostly associate Ban with deordorant commercials from the 90's. I'm headed on a business trip to warm and sunny SoCal next week, so I may bring these along to test out.

Harvey Prince
Perfume - Hello
Sample size: unknown (Full size: $55 for 1.7 oz)

"This pretty floral is the perfect way to transition from spring to summer! A smile in a bottle, each spritz boasts refreshing notes of mandarin, grapefruit, forsythia, and plumeria for a sunny and subtle signature."

I'm not crazy about perfume samples. Mainly since I feel like I can get them for free at any time from most department stores. I like the packaging, but don't love the scent. I do like the "Jerry Maguire" line on the back of the booklet. I think I may add this to the swap shop and see if anyone wants it.

CATTIVA
Precision Eye Liner - Black
Full size sample! Sample size: 0.012 oz/ 0.35g (Full size: $20 for 0.012 oz)

"Can't live without liner? We understand! Waterproof and retractable, this pencil is a must-have for minimalists and smokey eye queens, delivering smooth, smudge-resistant lines. And its paraben-free!"

I'm always excited to get eye make-up, and the value of this item is a score. I don't love waterproof eye liner so I may swap this item.

Summary: I enjoyed this box, and am really considering trying it again next month. Especially since I am cutting back on my Julep subscription next month. The value of this box was around $25, which is a good deal, and I liked the mix of products sampled. I think the usual month-to-month price is about $13. It is even less per month for annual subscribers.

Anyone else tried Beauty Box Five??
