My curiosity about sample swapping started from reading blogs where the blogger would mention that certain samples were going in the "swap pile" to be traded for other items. I knew I wanted in on that deal, but wasn't sure how to begin. Then I noticed that ipsy subscribers were commenting on product boards that they had an item they would like to trade and included an email address. I decided to give it a whirl. Time went by and I kind of forgot about it until out of the blue I received an email about one of the items I had offered up. A few emails later we had worked out a satisfactory trade.
I sent off the yaby Liquid Foundation in Buff (from my February ipsy bag). If all goes well, I should be receiving a Nicka K New York nail polish from the December ipsy bag. I can never turn down a new polish. :-)
Riding high off the success of my first swap, I did a google search for sample swapping and discovered eDivv.com which is a free website devoted to swapping. Simply sign-up, add some products to your "store" and let the swapping begin!
Within minutes of opening my store I received my first "divvy" - the site's term for a swap. The offer was to trade any item in this person's store for a Burt's Bees hand lotion I had posted (a item from one of the limited edition Birchboxes). I looked through the woman's store and eventually settled on the Queen Helene Mint Julep Masque.
I have heard of this product, but have never tried it. None of the other items in the store really appealed to me. Frankly, I was happy just to find a home for the lotion. I tried it once and thought it smelled like baby vomit. It was awful.
I also proposed some divvys of my own; all in pursuit of Julep polishes. I am a polish whore.
Back to swapping. Wish me luck!
