Julep Maven: FreeGold Code

Yes, I ordered more nail polish. In my defense Julep had a St. Patrick's Day special: spend $10 and get a free gold polish. Since I had been eying Malala (it benefits charity!) and Zelda was one of the possible free golds, I had to do it. The fact that is was a Friday afternoon, I had just completed two job interviews, and had a stressful day just meant I could add other items without feeling as guilty.

Malala - Classic with a Twist
"Dusty pink mauve crème"
$14/$11.20 maven

"Created to complement one of the shawls Malala wore during a speech to the United Nations, and which had previously belonged to slain Pakistani Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. 100% of proceeds from Malala will benefit The Malala Fund."

I like the color of Malala, but I like the benefit to a good cause even more. I love that this color is based on a shawl owned by Benazir Bhutto, and that all of the proceeds are donated to charity. Wins all around with this polish.

Maria - Classic with a Twist (American Beauty)
"Shimmering platinum rose"
$14/$11.20 maven
($3.99 on sale)

After receiving Vivien and noticing the American Beauty label, I did some research on the now defunct profile style. In my research I came across Maria, and was smitten. The swatches I've seen are really pretty, and at the sale price of four dollars I couldn't say no.

Zelda - Bombshell
"Pink champagne metallic"
$14/$11.20 maven

As part of my not-so-recent obsession with rose gold, I have been coveting Zelda for awhile. After creating my Oscars mani with Sienna, it further cemented my desire to possess this polish. The fact that I was able to get it for free was fantastic. Thank you Julep!

Large Mystery Add-on
$14.99 (promised $63 value)

Nicolette - Bombshell
"Opaque french white"
$14/$11.20 maven
($3.99 on sale)

I love white nail polish, so Nicolette was a good mystery item for me. My only other white Julep polish is Bunny, and that one has a gold shimmer to it.

Ingrid - Boho Glam
"Burnt orange crème"
$14/$11.20 maven
($4.99 on sale)

I'll be honest, I'm not loving Ingrid. I am not a big orange fan and this burnt orange takes me back to the 70's in a bad way. This one will be headed to the swap shop.

Mini Freedom Polymer Top Coat
$9/$7.20 maven??
($18/$14.40 maven for full size)

Top coat is always useful, and the little bottle is cute. A full size would have been nice though. I am guessing on the value based on halving the full size price.

Adele - Bombshell
"Golden reflective top coat"
$14/$11.20 Maven
($6.99 on sale)

Adele is another miss for me. The color is too close to a burnt orange. Adele will be joining Ingrid in the swap shop.

Alaina - Classic with a Twist
"Driftwood taupe crème"
$14/$11.20 maven (Currently showing as sold out)

Alaina was one of the polishes I added onto my Julep welcome box. It was a bit disappointing to receive a duplicate in the mystery add-on, especially since I have less than 25 Julep polishes currently. That said, I love this color and had considered ordering another bottle as an extra. The last few weeks Alaina had been on sale for $6.99, and is now showing as sold out. I'm happy to know that I have an extra bottle.

Forget-Me-Not Seeds
Not for sale

I like this as a cute extra in a maven box, but I do not like it as an item in my mystery add-on. I'm not much of a gardener, so these may also be heading to the swap shop.

Summary: I'm very satisfied with my main purchases: Malala, Maria, and Zelda. The mystery add-on was disappointing overall. I was glad I received mainly all polish as opposed to products. The value of the items though is way off - to the point that I almost want to email customer service. All of the four polishes were on sale, the seeds do not have a value, and I'm guessing on the mini top coat value. Altogether the value is only $30.16. Less than half the promised $63 value. Not cool. This will probably be my first and last mystery item.
