Julep Maven: The Resort Collection (March 2014)

I'm late to the party with this post, I know. Drama in my real world has led to delays in my virtual one. My apologies.

I'm a Julep Maven newbie. February was my first experience with the maven selection reveal/choice window, and upon first view I wasn't impressed. I agonized over the color swatches and read comments online trying to make a decision. Eventually some of the colors grew on me. To the point that I even added on an extra. March was the same.

I could hardly sleep the night of the 19th knowing that when I woke-up the selections would be posted. I was like a kid at Christmas, waking up multiple times and immediately hoping it was the magical hour. (The open time is 6 a.m. PST) All this excitement, and then a blah reveal: The Resort Collection.

Lip gloss?! Again?! None of the colors really called to me, and the best polishes (IMO) were add-ons. Not cool.

I immediately jumped on some boards to see what others were thinking, and found similar sentiments to mine. The most appealing and "coolest" color is Tania. Described as a "multidemensional mermaid teal glitter."

I liked Tania, and actually wished Julep would have done a complete mermaid collection. My only hesitation is that I do not wear a lot of glitter polishes, and they are a pain to remove.

My assigned style profile is "It Girl." I like this profile because it is all nail polish, which is what I signed up for in the first place. However, this month's selections were not doing it for me.

It Girl

"Lizanne- Sea green shimmer
Margaret- Light periwinkle crème

Princess Grace- Rich papaya crème"

I like Lizanne the best of the three, and Margaret is nice. I do not like Princess Grace, and Grace Kelly is so not an orange style.

My other options were:

Classic with a Twist

"Myriam- Casino red crème

Soraphine- Classic sheer white crème

Graceful Lip Gloss- Sheer pale pink (customizable)"

I have a red Julep polish that I love (Jackie) and I'm not loving the sheerness of Soraphine.

Bombshell

"Lilou- Lemon chiffon crème
Monaco- Pantone® Color of Spring 2014- Dazzling mariner blue crème
Awestruck Lip Gloss- Sheer golden blush shimmer (customizable)"

I like Monaco, but can't stand Lilou. It is my least favorite color in the collection.

Boho Glam

"Elisa- Soft wisteria shimmer
Harriet- Guava coral crème
Enchanted Lip Gloss- Sheer watermelon (customizable)"

Elisa is one of the most appealing colors in the collection, and I like Harriet.

Modern Beauty

"
Luxe Lip Conditioning Treatment- A silky-smooth balm with omega-rich pumpkin seed oil and a cooling metal tip that soothes lips and stimulates microcirculation

Buff Lip Scrub- An exfoliating sugar scrub enriched with nourishing shea butter and vitamins E & B5"

I am not very interested in Julep's beauty products and this combo isn't the least tempting.

As a new Julep Maven member, I do not have the option to skip a box. My choice is to take a box or cancel my account. If I cancel I loose all the Jules (reward points) I have earned. Thankfully there is a four-day window in which to make this choice. After reading the comments online I decided to make a selection early to hold my choices, as the add-ons can sell out quickly.

I decided to switch to the Boho Glam profile. It was the only collection were I liked all the polish colors, and I am willing to try a lip gloss. The lip gloss color was customizable with a choice of five shades.

I choose Fearless to try. Julep's swatches are terrible, but the description sounded like a good one. We shall see.

Maven's can select up to three add-ons, which are discounted from the normal price. I decided to add-on Monaco and Lizanne. For my third option I was torn over Tania or Rae.

"Rae- 2014 Pantone® Color of the Year- Radiant orchid crème"

I went with Rae, due to my aforementioned issues with glitter polishes and with the hope of purchasing Tania at a later date. Each add-on polish was $4.99 (usually $14/$11.20 mavens).

I saved my box, all the time thinking I would change my mind or cancel later. Then, as before, the more I looked at the swatches the more I liked the colors. I ended up sticking with all my choices and am really looking forward to my box arriving.

B (my co-worker/fellow maven) also tried to get Rae this month but It was sold out when she went to add it on. Thank you random internet beauty board commenters for the advice to add-on early!
